insuranceMany people without dental insurance avoid the dentist by choosing not to attend checkups and get their teeth cleaned. The truth is ignoring your oral health can prove detrimental.  Your oral health reflects the health of the rest of your body and by taking proper care of your teeth and gums you are doing yourself a favor. You should see your dentist whether or not you have dental insurance. Today, your Plano dentists, Drs. Kerr and Minton discuss one type of dental insurance that they accept: Cigna Dental Insurance.

What Is Dental Insurance?

Dental insurance is like any other insurance, you pay a monthly or yearly premium and when it comes time to visit your dentist, the insurance company helps pay the cost. Most dental insurance policies cover preventative treatments such as two yearly exams and two professional cleanings yearly, X-rays, and fluoride treatments.

Cigna Dental

Whether or not you have an individual or family medical insurance plan with Cigna Insurance, you can take advantage of Cigna’s dental coverage. Cigna offers a variety of PPO’s (preferred provider organizations plans) to choose from which cover services such as:

  • Preventative care: routine exams, cleanings, X-rays and more
  • Basic care: fillings, basic restorative work, non-routine X-rays
  • Major services: root canals, crowns, bridges, etc.

Some Cigna dental plans include:

myCigna Dental Preventative: Cigna pays 100% of in-network preventative and diagnostic services with no annual maximum and no deductible. Offers discounted restorative and orthodontic services.

myCigna Dental 1000: Includes coverage for preventive, diagnostic, and restorative services with an in-network discount for orthodontics. Annual maximum limit is $1,000 with a $50 individual and a $150 family deductible.

myCigna Dental 1500: Includes coverage for preventative, diagnostic, and restorative services. Annual maximum limit is $1,500 with a $50 individual and a $150 family deductible.  Lifetime orthodontic benefit of $1,000 is included for all ages.
